Two Missouri Inmate Systems
County jails and state corrections answer different custody questions. A Missouri county jail commonly holds a person after arrest, before trial, while bond or another hold remains unresolved, for a local or municipal matter, or during a shorter local sentence. Booking number, bond, booking allegation, and release data originate with the sheriff or local detention agency. There is no guaranteed complete statewide county-jail roster. Each jurisdiction chooses its public fields and update practice.
The Missouri Department of Corrections receives people committed under state sentences and also supervises probation and parole. Its lifetime DOC ID is not a county booking number. A person may leave a county roster after transport and appear in DOC records after intake processing. Federal prisoners use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator, not Missouri DOC. Immigration detention and another state's custody also require their own agency searches. VINE adds notifications for participating agencies but is not a substitute for either official holding system.
Missouri DOC Offender Search
The Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search is the primary statewide prison and supervision locator. It covers people currently or formerly under DOC custody or supervision, subject to the agency's privacy and accuracy notices. Search by DOC ID or name. The assigned place can be a correctional center, a field supervision office, or another DOC location. Check the institution-versus-field indicator before describing a person as physically incarcerated.
DOC records can show present offenses, sentence and judgment details, county of conviction, term, custody or bond status, probation or parole information, conditional-release dates, and supervision fields that are public under agency policy. A minimum release date is not a guaranteed release date. Maximum expiration, parole eligibility, conditional release, and Parole Board action have distinct meanings and can change with calculations, consecutive cases, detainers, conduct, and court orders.

Missouri County Jail Rosters
Missouri has 114 counties plus independent St. Louis City, and local custody systems vary. The sheriff commonly publishes a current-inmate search, recent-booking list, or jail information page. Some cities operate detention that should be checked during a transfer delay. A roster may include only current inmates, remove released people quickly, suppress juveniles or protected detainees, and omit photographs under local policy. Search the arrest jurisdiction first through the Missouri county directory.
County custody includes recent arrestees, people awaiting initial appearance or trial, people unable to satisfy release conditions, local or municipal detainees, holds for another agency, and some shorter local sentences. A person awaiting DOC transport may disappear from one system before intake is complete in the other. Call the booking desk with full name and date of birth when the arrest was recent, the roster is stale, or hospital placement and transfer could affect display.
Find an Inmate in Missouri
Use a complete location sweep instead of assuming where a person “should” be. Recent arrest points to the arrest county and any city detention center. Missouri Inmate Profile Fields
A county profile describes one local booking. It is not the full criminal case and does not prove conviction. Booking allegations can use an officer's or system's initial code, while the prosecutor later files a different Missouri statute or ordinance. Verify each charge in Case.net and read every count's disposition. Bond may appear per count, and another county, probation, immigration, or federal hold can still block release.

Missouri County Jail Facilities
Missouri jail facilities are locally operated, so there is no one statewide county-jail address or contact card. Use the county page to find the official sheriff or local corrections site, exact facility address, booking phone, visitation schedule, mail format, and deposit vendor. Ask which facility physically holds the person because a county may use another jurisdiction, a city detention center, or a transfer arrangement.
State correctional centers follow DOC rules and use the DOC adult institutions directory.
The DOC facility list does not identify people in county jails. Match the system to the person's custody stage before using an address.
Missouri Jail Booking Process
After arrest, staff identify and search the detainee, inventory property, take photographs and fingerprints, perform health and safety screening, enter allegations and holds, and assign housing. Public roster timing varies. A judge addresses probable cause, charge notice, counsel, and release conditions under the governing warrant, rules, and law. Exact appearance timing depends on the arrest, warrant, weekend, and case circumstances, so no universal hourly promise should be inferred from a roster.
Bond can be cash, commercial or surety, secured or unsecured, or personal release conditions as authorized. The sheriff releases a person only after all warrants, holds, payments, and orders clear. “No bond” can mean staff have no authorized amount yet rather than a permanent detention ruling. Call the clerk and jail to interpret current conditions. The roster's allegation remains an accusation until the court resolves the filed count.
Missouri Inmate Visitation
Visitation schedules are facility specific. County sheriffs set registration, identification, dress, minor, video, and in-person rules. State prisons use DOC visitor approval. A county vendor account does not transfer to DOC. Use only the vendor link published by the holding agency, and ask the facility about disability or language access without seeking private medical details from public-information staff.

A public location or sentence field does not authorize disclosure of prison health, mental-health, or treatment information.
Missouri Inmate Funds and Records
County jails and DOC publish their own approved deposit methods. Verify the person's ID and facility before paying because transfers can make an old account or vendor wrong. Limits, payment types, refunds, and processing fees differ. A look-alike deposit site can add cost or send money to the wrong person. Use the official jail or DOC link and keep the confirmation number.
Older booking records can be requested from the sheriff's custodian even after a roster entry disappears. Ask for a segregated booking sheet, charge and bond list, and release record rather than an entire jail file. Medical screening is not ordinary open booking data. The DOC file can contain multiple rows per person because each charge tied to supervision may have its own row. Its conversion, self-report, and accuracy cautions must be preserved.
